Born on June 28, 1935 in Waynesboro, VA, he was a son of the late Thelbert S. and Marion Beardsworth Shields.
Mr. Shields was the owner and operator of R & J Amusement for many years having serviced many states. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Waynesboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Shields; daughter, Victoria Eavey; four brothers; Robert, John, Thelbert, and Thomas.
Survivors include his children, Richard C. Shields, Jr. and wife, Linda, Catherine Baird, Matthew Shields, Kelly Clayton and husband, Earl, Lisa Calo, and Cynthia Lam; sister, Maryanne Crockford and husband, Hamilton; brothers, Edward Shields and David Shields and wife, Delke; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 301 Sheppard Court, Waynesboro with Rev. Francis Xavier Musolooza officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
