Obituary of Lillie Snow Cox
On September 7, 2024 our wonderful Mom went to a much better place with her family by her side at her home. Lillie Snow was born on August 31, 1937 in Weyers Cave to the late Cecil E. Garber and to the late Miriam Foley Garber Diehl. She graduated from Montevideo H.S. in 1956. Lillie Snow worked as a secretary after graduation in Harrisonburg and was walking to work when Dad saw her and told his co-worker that he was going to marry her. So, on September 15, 1957 she married James V. Cox just like he said she would. Mom worked for many years as an executive housekeeper before going to work at DuPont, from which she retired. Lillie Snow is survived by three daughters who loved her very much, Shelly Ponton, Tonya Wood, and Valerie Stone; grandson, Adam Stone who meant the world to her; and step grandchildren, Amanda and Travis Stone whom she loved very much. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Roberta Garber, Tish Tallent (Stanley), Freeda Clevinger (Larry), Beulah Ziegs (Ed); and brother-in-law, Col. (Ret) Dallas Cox (Betty Ann). Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved very much. Lillie Snow was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim; her parents; brother, Navy Commander Cecil Erskine Garber II; sister, Mary Sue Dean and her husband, Earl; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Sue Cox; sister-in-law, Hattie Haulsee; son-in-law, Timmy Ponton; nephew, Mark Cox; and niece, Lisa Cox. Finally, she is preceded in death by her step-father, H.H. Diehl Jr; as well as her canine companions, Maggie and Boo Boo; and in-laws Hiram and Violet Cox. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor David Stewart officiating. Following the service, burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro. Pallbearers will be Adam Stone, Travis Stone, John Reilly, T.J. Duncan, Ryan Haulsee, and Tommy Ponton. We, the family, would like to express the utmost appreciation to mom’s entire Hospice team, her nurse Amy, Dr. Heck, Lindsey Wallace NP, Claire Meyers NP, Nicole and Mary Scott, her social service workers, all the wonderful ladies at the Shenandoah House, Pastor Matt Atlee from Hospice, and Ashley Dillon for being there to help care for mom at home. We love all of you. We could not have done it without you. After the committal service at the graveside, everyone is invited for a meal prepared by loving hands at Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren. Please join us. Please make any donations to any organization that benefits the care for animals. Mom loved her canine companions very much or donations can be made to the Shenandoah House, c/o the Augusta Health Foundation, PO Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939. “Well done my good and faithful servant.” Relatives and friends may share condolences and memories with the family online by visiting www.reynoldshamrickfuneralhomes.com
