Kirkland "Cookie" Artemus Bailey

Kirkland Artemus “Cookie” Bailey, 81, of Lyndhurst, passed away on Saturday August 14, 2021 at Augusta Health.
Mr. Bailey was born on April 19, 1940 in Maryland, and was a son of the late Elmer Forrest “Curly” and Dorothy (Kreitzer). He was a veteran of the United State Air Force, serving from 1957 until 1962. Mr. Bailey worked for Acme Visible Records and later worked for DuPont until his retirement. He was a member of the Sherando United Methodist Church, and also the Waynesboro Moose and Crozet Sportsman’s Club. Kirk enjoyed hunting and spending time with family, and friends.
He is survived by his wife Madeline (McAllister) Bailey; with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage in April.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bailey is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ann McThenia and husband Barton of Waynesboro; siblings, Maxine Hunt of Waynesboro, Lonnie Bailey of Lyndhurst, Louie Bailey of Lyndhurst; and his greatest joy grandson Barton Bailey McThenia.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth “Mickey” Bailey.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 6 PM until 8 PM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 2 PM at Sherando United Methodist Church with Pastor David Rash officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions may be made to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, 1800 S. Delphine Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980
