John Berkeley Harner

John Berkeley “Sonny” Harner, 82, formerly of Waynesboro, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022 at the residence of his daughter in Lexington, KY. John was the former owner of Harner’s Appliance Service in Waynesboro and a thoroughbred horse trainer. He enjoyed living in the Clerbrook Golf and R.V. resort in Clermont, FL. He was a son of the late Harry Cecil and Margaret Agnes (Frye) Harner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Virginia Harner; son, Thomas Michael Harner and a brother, Harry C. “Snookie” Harner. Survivors include a son, John Berkeley Harner, Jr., of Waynesboro; daughter, Deborah Virginia Harner and wife, Kristin Selzer of Lexington, KY. A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Goose Creek Road, Fishersville with Pastor Tim Bohlman officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Steve Wine, Noah Wine, Scott Wine, Alan Harner, Robert Gasper and George Coyner. The family wishes to give special thanks to his friend and caregiver Val. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
