John David Anderson, Jr.

John David Anderson, Jr., 80, of Afton went to be with the Lord Sunday May 17, 2015 at his residence.
He was born in Crozet on July 9, 1934, a son of the late John David, Sr. and Margaret Dameron Anderson.
He was a devoted member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of Deacons and served on many other committees over the years. He had traveled on missionary trips to Honduras and Nicaragua, and with his wife were both part of the Disaster Relief Program through the Southern Baptist and had traveled to many disasters as the one in New York City on September 11, 2011. He was one of the founding members of the Rockfish Valley Volunteer Fire Department and served on many boards and was a part of the Rescue Squad. He also served as President of the Rockfish Ruritan Club and as District Governor. He worked at Morton’s Frozen Foods in Crozet for 38 years as a refrigerator mechanic and retired in 1998 and was employed by Augusta Health in Fishersville as a currier for the lab of which he really enjoyed until January of 2015. He served in the United States Army Medical Corp where he was stationed in Korea from 1952 until 1954.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Floyd Anderson; a daughter, Teresa Anderson Davis and husband, Nathan; his precious granddaughter, Natalie Rose Davis; a sister, Dora Caprye and husband, Chuck; two brothers, Coy Anderson and companion, Bobby and Clifton Anderson; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
John was known and loved by many people in and outside the community.
He had made a goal in is life to visit all 50 states. He made all with the exception of North Dakota.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Hebron Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provide by the American Legion Post 340 graveside.
Active pallbearers will be David Graves, Tommy Harvey, Tony Reid, E. G. Pannell, Kenneth Lee and Bo Delk.
Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces, nephews and members of the Rockfish Valley Fire Department.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-9:00 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Hebron Baptist Church, 66 Tanbark Drive Afton, VA 22920 or Rockfish Valley Vol Fire Department.
