Born June 24, 1945 in Charlottesville, he was the son of the late Arnold W. and Bertha (Puckett) Moses.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith McCall and Beverley Graves.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Clara (Pacheco) Moses of Raphine; son, James A. Moses and wife, Cheryl, of Stuarts Draft; daughter, Lisa L. Hamilton and husband, Stewart, of Lexington; eight grandchildren, William E. Moses, James A. Moses III, Savanna S. Adamms, James B. Beverlin III, Hunter J.L. Phipps, Heather L. Boone, Derrick Boone, and Trevor Knott; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prior to retirement, James was employed as an engineer with DuPont for 35 years. He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army having risen to the rank of SP4 and was a trained tank driver. As an avid outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was also a faithful, long-standing member of Sherando United Methodist Church. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to many.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the funeral home with Rev. David A. Rash and Rev. David Breeden officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sherando United Methodist Church Cemetery, Stuarts Draft.
Active pallbearers will be William Moses, Jaye Beverlin, Hunter Phipps, Skye Adamms, Brad Grant, and Eddie Pacheco.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Stewart Hamilton, Brian Blosser, Mike Donahue, and Lee Gray.
