Donald Franklin Coffey

Donald Franklin Coffey, 83, of Waynesboro, passed away on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born in Waynesboro to Jessie J. Coffey and Dewey L. Coffey Sr, on July 13th, 1941, the youngest of five siblings. He was a graduate of Wilson High School in 1959, and worked from childhood at his father’s grocery store, Coffey’s Supermarket. Donald worked at various jobs at the store, eventually buying the store from his father, and running it until 1988, when he retired. After retirement, Donald spent his time living a simple life in the mountains. He enjoyed riding his four wheeler and visiting with friends and especially his family. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brothers, Dewey Coffey and Peter Coffey; a sister, Janet Rutherford; and a great grandson, Josh Jr. Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Judy Coffey; his son, Dale Coffey and wife Tammy of Waynesboro; his daughter, Debbie Critzer and husband Kenny of Waynesboro; as well as his grandchildren, Jeffrey Critzer and wife April, Josh Coffey, Eric Critzer, and Sarah Walker and husband Josh. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Helen Lipsky of Waynesboro; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of Medi Home Hospice of Charlottesville for their loving and attentive care.
