Diane spent her entire professional career caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in hospital facilities across the country. Her sincere concern for people and her giving nature helped her to thrive in that environment, where she shared a genuine bond with patients and co-workers alike. Most important to her, aside from the well-being and happiness of her family, was her unending, unconditional devotion to, and faith in, God. She was a member of the Bridge Christian Church in Fishersville. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, doing word-searches, coloring and reading, particularly from her Bible.
In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Phillip Gaw, Jr., and John Ivy Alston, and her son, Charles Kirk Gaw.
Survivors include her sons, Phillip Mark Gaw and John Scott Alston; her sisters, Carole A. Bailes and Lois A. Croom; nieces Michelle Dedrick, Christy Bailes and Janet Neinhaus, and nephews, Jeff and Greg Dedrick, and Jimmy Croom.
The family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Heck and Diane's many wonderful caregivers at Kings Daughters, all of whom not only provided her the close medical attention she needed over the years, but also made her feel special. We'd also like to say special thanks to Pastor Todd Brown and Chaplin Don James, who provided her great comfort and reassurance. She really loved you all.
A private memorial service and burial were held the weekend of 29 March, 2019.
