Obituary of Dewey Love Coffey, Jr.
Dewey Love Coffey, Jr., 87, of Waynesboro passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at his home. Born March 16, 1932 in Fishersville, he was the son of the late Dewey Love Coffey, Sr. and Jessie (Ray) Coffey. Dewey was a charter member of Central Point Christian Church, Waynesboro. He was a Korean War veteran having served his country honorably for 41 years with the U.S. Navy. In conjunction with his military career, he was employed with Moore Brothers Construction for 40 years where he served as Vice President of Operations until his retirement. Dewey enjoyed traveling and one of his greatest joys was time spent with family on their yearly vacation to the Outer Banks. Those who knew him will remember him as a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis (Rutherford) Coffey; brother, Peter Coffey; and sister, Janet Rutherford Coffey. Survivors include his two sons, Clifford Coffey and wife, Andrea of Waynesboro and Clay Coffey and wife, Laura of Riner, Va; grandchildren, Hannah Coffey, Joshua Coffey and Lucas Coffey; sister, Helen Lipsky of Waynesboro; brother, Donald Coffey and wife, Judy of Love; sister-in-law, Audrey Rutherford Shearer and husband, Clyde of Mount Dora, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the funeral home with Pastor Jonathan Goss and Pastor Jamie McClanahan officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Dennis Coffey, Dale Coffey, Brian Carey and David Shearer. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Hannah, Joshua and Lucas Coffey. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
