James was born in Penn Yan, NY on February 19, 1914, the son of the late James P. and Edith (Clayton) Alexander. James served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. While serving, he was a bandsman in the Army Military Band. James worked for many years for the Penn Yan Boat Co. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Clayton and sister, Margie.
James is survivied by his loving wife of 37 years, Mildred L. Cole Alexander; his step children, Caroline (Mark) Wood and Paul (Olga) Perry; grandchilden, Amanda (Kyle) Davis and Dwayne (Robin) Wood; and his great grandchildren, Thaine and Gwyn Wood, Breanna Wilson, and Katlyn Davis.
His funeral service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, October 5th, 2012 at 1:30pm at the Haughey-Wood Funeral Home, 119 Fifth St., Watkins Glen, NY. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
