He was born December 2, 1936, in Waterville, a son of the late Ralph Maheu and Antoinette Levesque. He graduated from Waterville High School, class of 1955 and on September 7, 1964 he married his best friend Aline, at Sacred Heart Church.
After high school Richard served in the Maine National Guard for 22 years before working for Fred’s Vending for 31 years until his retirement on June 18, 2004. He was also a lifetime member of the Waterville Elks Lodge and a member of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. He served as a communicant of Corpus Christi Parish at Sacred Heart Church for many years.
Richard is survived by his wife Aline (Min) Maheu, 2 sons; Glenn and wife Lily of Waltham, MA, and Kevin and Wife Melissa of Waterville, Four grandchildren; Maegan, Rebecca, Gregory, and Emily Maheu, One sister; Geraldine Breton, 3 brother-in-laws; Deacon Reginald Roy and Wife Mary of Bristol, CT, Joseph and wife Lois Pelletier of Millinockett, and Vinton and wife Regena of Ft. Kent. He also leaves a sister-in-law Patricia Kissinger of Reading, PA, 2 nieces; Jean Ann and husband Peter Moody of Peachtree, GA, and Linda and Husband Steven Donahue of Fairfield, and many special friends throughout the community.
Richard was predeceased by four brothers; Francis, Robert, Raymond, and Roland Maheu.
Visitation will be held at the Veilleux Funeral Home on Friday, July 20th from 2-4 and 6-8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, July 21st, 2012 at 11 Am followed by internment at St. Francis Cemetery.
