Oakland - Marie Martin, 88, died peacefully at her daughter's home in NH on December 17, 2023. Marie was born June 11, 1935 (Oakland) the daughter of Joseph "Mike" Vigue and Mary (Kraus) (Lane) Vigue. She attended Milton Laforest Williams High School (Oakland) class of 1953, with salutatorian honors, and received a Husson College Commercial Award. She married the love of her life Joseph Martin on August 21, 1965 and they lived a happy life together for 46 years.
Marie worked at the former Lockwood Dutchess Cotton Mill (Waterville) and Scott Paper Company (Winslow) which she retired from after 37 years of service. She was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church (Oakland) and was a part-time records clerk for the church. She enjoyed sports and music, and was a member of a candlepin bowling league and Sunday Night Ten Pin Bowling League (Waterville) for 12 years. Her love for music involved her with the Treble Clef Choral Society (1960-1970) which sang at many local churches, colleges, and nursing homes. She enjoyed swimming, boating, and drives to the coast for lobsters. She was a member of "The Lovely Ladies" and a group from Scott Paper called the "Scott Girls".
Survivors include her daughter Kim (Martin) Gilbert and husband Paul, granddaughter Jennifer Howard husband Kyle. Grandson Gregory Gilbert and wife Sarah, and 3 great grandsons Oakley, Leo, Carter. nephew, Keith Vigue and wife Sheila, and great nephew, Derek Vigue.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Martin, her brother Robert Lane and wife June, her brother Francis Vigue and wife Jeanine, and nephew David Vigue, and parents.
At Marie's request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 10AM at St. John the Baptist Church, Monument Street in Winslow with a graveside burial at the Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery to be held in the Spring.
