

AUGUSTA – Francis “Frank” Reginald Pomerleau a lifelong resident of Winslow passed peacefully Saturday December 12, 2015 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta. He was born in Winslow, Maine February 15, 1935 the son of Louis and Roseanna Thibideault Pomerleau. He attended schools in Winslow and also Saint Francis School in Waterville.
Frank developed a work ethic while still in school working at the Lockwood Mill in Waterville to help support his family facing the untimely death of his father when Frank was twelve. As a young man he enlisted in the Naval Reserves and served on the destroyer the USS Clarence Bronson. In 1954 Frank married his wife of 61 years Agnes A Couture of Waterville. He was drafted into the US Army in 1958 and served in Germany where he attained the rank of Sargent. Frank saw Elvis Presley in a military jeep while in Germany.
Most of Frank’s career was in automotive service. He started as a parts manager for Central Maine Motors in Waterville. Frank then became the service manager for Joseph Motors in Waterville for several years. He later was the store manager for L & A Tire Company in Waterville. The owner of L & A Tire Company started VIP Discount Auto where Frank was store manager of the Waterville store from its inception until he retired.
Frank was a very personable man. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and usually had them laughing in the end at one of his jokes. Frank was an avid reader. He read thousands of books. He enjoyed country music. Frank was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. One of his loves was hunting. Besides much time spent in the Maine woods, he made several trips to Colorado and one to Canada to hunt. Most often his brother Norman was his hunting companion.
Frank’s favorite place to be was at his camp on Lake Moxie in The Forks, Maine. He spent most of his free time there. One of his favorite things to do in his later years was meeting for coffee with his brother, Norman and wife Marilyn, Frank’s sister, Rita and friends, Emerson Fleury and Ron St Amand.
Frank was pre-deceased by brothers Edward, Lafayette, Leo, Robert and Norman, as well as a sister, Yvonne (De Neige) Wilbur.
Frank is survived by his wife Agnes of Lakewood Continuing Care in Waterville, his son Jeffrey and his wife Audie Harris of Scarborough; two grandsons Eliot and Nolan Pomerleau of Scarborough; Sister Rita Rheaume of Winslow, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday December 18, 2015 at 11 am at the Notre Dame Catholic Church located on Silver St. in Waterville. Burial will be held at a later date.
