Denise O. Labbe Poulin

Denise Poulin, 93, of Benton, ME died September 15, 2015 at her home with her family by her side. She was born November 4, 1921 in Augusta, the third of eleven children of Eugene and Josephine Labbe.

Growing up during the depression, her lifestyle was one of a minimalist. She spoke fluent French and English among her Franco-American family. Denise married Wallace J. Poulin on February 1, 1940 in Augusta. They lived in Waterville their entire married life. Their 5 children - Florian, Robert, Raymond,

Claire and Leo - were Denise’s pride and joy. She stayed at home during her children’s younger years and was a great homemaker. Holidays and family gatherings were a big part of what made life so fun. She loved saying to us all, “Hi darling” and “I love you”. After 36 wonderful, loving years together,

Wallace passed away on November 4, 1976 – her birthday.

Denise will be remembered for her “I will” and “I can” attitude, her generous and selfless spirit toward anyone, and her hard work and humility. She was employed at Diamond Match as well as 36 years at C.F. Hathaway. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, sister and Memere.

Her hobbies over the years included sewing, selling her handmade crafts, gardening, and cooking. In her retirement, she loved to travel with her sisters.

In addition to her husband Wallace, Denise was predeceased by both parents; sons Florian and Robert; brothers Lionel, Florian, Lonio, Romuald, Ernest and Norman; sisters Doris, Lydia and Joan; and daughter-in-law Noella Poulin. She loved her siblings and their spouses – they had such a close relationship.

Denise leaves behind her children, Raymond and wife Eva Poulin, Claire and husband Jeffrey Dionne, and Leo and wife Lena Poulin; sister Lucille Marcoux and husband Robert; brother-in-law Leo Dostie; sisters-in-law Gloria Labbe and Loretta Labbe; grandchildren Tammy Poulin, Wally Poulin, Becky Gilpatrick, Marla Poulin, Tala Poulin, Raymond Poulin Jr., Kathy Poulin, Tisha Goodrich, Zach Dionne, Jessica Dionne, Jennifer Pare’, and Shawn Poulin (and spouses); great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Assistance Plus and the many aides who cared for Denise. Special thanks to Veronica Overlock, her primary personal care attendant, for her consistent love, care and personal relationship with Denise. Thank you also to MaineGeneral Hospice for helping Denise’s end-of-life

journey.
