It is with great sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) Wagner announces his passing at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, NY after a brief illness. He was 93. Bob was a retired Senior Computer Programmer for IBM in Sterling Forest, NY. He was born in Danbury, CT. He was a resident of Washingtonville, NY since 1971 and a former resident of Danbury, CT, Kingston, NY, and Poughkeepsie, NY.
Bob graduated from Danbury High School and served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was an avid hiker and camper and completed many sections of the Appalachian Trail. After he retired, he and his brother spent many weeks during the summer as volunteer Park Rangers in the Massanutten Lodge in the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. They also traveled to many National Parks throughout this country in his RV.
Bob was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Monroe, NY. He also volunteered at Greater Hudson Valley Health (now Garnet Medical Center) for many years as a front desk greeter.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, John G and Anna E (Stietzel) Wagner, a brother, John W Wagner, and sisters Dorothee A Wagner and Ruth Anne Wagner. He is survived by 2 neices and a nephew: Eva Jakubek and her husband Paul, Helen Nichols, and John Wagner and his wife Jo, and 4 grand neices and 2 grand nephews: Anna Mayo and her husband Seth, Gregory Jakubek, Pamela Frampolsky and her husband Max, Heather Bush and her husband Andrew, Peter Varco, and Dr. Courtney Wagner, and 5 great grand neices and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 23, 2023 at St Paul Lutheran Church, 21 Still Road, Monroe, NY. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at a later date at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Danbury, CT.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Lutheran Care Center who cared for him during the past several weeks.
