Born in Boulder, CO on August 7, 1957, Gary spent most of his early life in Closter, NJ. He earned an associate's degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree from New Jersey Institute of Technology. Gary worked as a civil engineer for Arcadis (formerly Malcolm Pirnie) for over 40 years. In 1990, Gary bought his first home in Washingtonville, NY, which he later renovated and expanded to make room for his growing family. Gary was an avid ice hockey player, participating in recreational leagues into his sixties, and serving as a youth coach for both of his children. He enjoyed skiing, landscaping, mountain biking, and fly fishing. Music and nature were his religion, and he took tremendous pleasure in sitting on his deck watching birds during the day, sunsets at dusk, and stars at night (with or without a roaring fire).
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Ronald, and his brother, Mark. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis; wife, Jeannie; children, Carly and Nolan; siblings, Sandy, Steve, Deanna, and Jen; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The Sheeran family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the entire oncology team at Smilow Cancer Care Center and the Rahway Regional Cancer Center.
While Gary left us much too soon, he will live on through his amazing children and by each person whose life he touched. May we all be true to ourselves and enjoy the simple things in life, as he exemplified.
A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.
