

Charles Ira Decker Sr., 89, of Washingtonville, NY, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2021. Charles was born in Middletown, New York on October 29, 1931, the son of Tracy and Alice (Henderson) Decker. Charles graduated from Washingtonville High School in 1949 and went on to receive his Associates Degree from Orange County Community College.
Charles served in the United States Navy from 1951-1959, during the Korean War. Upon returning to civilian life, Charles became a foreman for the NYS Department of Transportation, where he worked for 28 years. In 1955, Charles joined the Monell Engine Company of Washingtonville, NY, where he became a life member and served as Chief.
Charles was very active in the community. He was a proud member of the Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, Anah Shriners and Excelsior Sportsman’s Club in Eldred, NY. Charles was an avid fisherman and athlete, playing softball and soccer throughout high school, college and adulthood. He loved watching the Mets and above all other things, spending time with his family.
Charles is survived by daughters, Wendy Moore, Cheryl Myers and Kenneth, Darlena Decker and John Dolson; daughter-in-law Margaret Decker; brothers, Jack Decker, Arthur and Pamela Decker; sister Faye and husband Michael Anson Sr.; grandchildren Heather Geyer, Gregory and Leann Pentz, Melissa Geyer, Kristen Decker, Colleen Decker and Katrina Dolson; one great-grandson, Jaxson Pentz, several nieces and nephews and many cherished friends. Charles was predeceased by his mother and father, brothers Tracy Jr., Douglas and Robert, and his only son, Charles Ira Decker Jr.
The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff at Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation, especially nurses Nicole and Amie, and Commissioner Laurence LaDue, for the care and attention given to Charles in his final months.
Visitation will be Sunday September 26, 12-3:30 pm at David T Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, N.Y. Navy Military honors will at 3:30 pm with prayer service to follow at the Funeral Home. Cremation will be private.
