Tommy Tomlinson died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 13, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Penni St. Hilaire, daughters from his first marriage, Melanie Ibsen (Jim), Jennifer Tomlinson and grandchildren Elizabeth Ibsen and Richard Ibsen. Born in California, September 11, 1931, at the age of 10 he moved to Kansas (Topeka and Wamego). He joined the Navy in 1950 and served in Korea. After the Navy he received a B.A. at Washburn University and a Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Wisconsin. He taught psychology at UCLA and was a major contributor to studies of the Los Angeles Riot (1965). In 1967 he moved to Washington where he worked in the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO), the National Institute of Education and the Office of Education Research and Improvement, Department of Education. He retired in 1992. In retirement he and his wife traveled the world, gardened and he was noted for his smoked tomatillo salsa and ribs. He loved music. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
