Linda Weinstein Madden of Bethesda, Maryland died on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, whose ceaseless spirit and sunny disposition warmed the life of everyone she met. She was an avid reader, consumer of musical theater, and watcher of romantic comedies, but loved nothing more than catching up over a cup of coffee (always Starbucks) with her enormous circle of friends. Her true joy was her family, and she cherished recent trips together with them to Spain, Hawaii, and New York City.
Born in Newark, New Jersey to Jerald and Matilda Weinstein, Linda grew up in Verona, New Jersey before attending Princeton University. After graduating from Princeton in the second class to welcome women, she studied law at The George Washington University Law School where she met her husband of 42 years, Michael. Linda worked at the Federal Trade Commission immediately after graduating from law school, and then took a lengthy sabbatical to raise her three children, before working as a grant writer at the Jewish Social Services Agency and the Director of Development at Mobile Medical Care. She called Bethesda her home for almost 30 years, and there she was a dedicated member of a monthly book club and active in the community, including serving as the President of the Wood Acres Elementary School PTA and leading Mobile Medical Care’s annual fundraiser.
Linda is survived by her loving husband Michael, her son Jason and his wife Megan, her son Joshua and his wife Chelsea, and her daughter Emily. She was the adoring grandmother of Caitlin, Caroline, Jackson and Nora. Linda is also survived by her brother, Lyle, of Vancouver, Canada, and sister, Cindy, of Pasadena, California.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 12 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Joseph Gawler’s Sons Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 13 at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street NW, Washington, DC 20016.
