John Edward Morris of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware died January 19, 2019 of intestinal lymphoma. He was born June 24, 1943 in Washington, D.C. He grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, and graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School in 1961. He had degrees from Duke University and Northwestern University. He served in the United States Army for five years including a year in Vietnam. After his discharge he worked in Atlanta, Georgia, and then lived and worked in New Jersey for twenty-five years. He retired to Rehoboth in 2000. John made the most of his second chance at life after receiving a heart transplant at Inova Fairfax Hospital in 2012. He went on bicycle trips and hikes out west and in Europe and loved his walks around Rehoboth.
John leaves behind many treasured memories with his family and friends. This includes his sisters Elizabeth Schwartz (Robert) and Clare McLeod, and longtime friends Hardy Pearce and Susan Slye.
He will be lovingly remembered as Uncle John by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews: Beth Nesbitt (Phil) and their children Emily and Christopher; Kate Quinn (Kevin) and their children Colin and Cameron; Geoffrey Hickman (Josefina) and their daughter Violeta; Julie McLeod (Darren Wilson) and their son Sam; Bruce McLeod (Naomi) and their daughters Nadira, Caitlyn, and Teagan; Anne McLeod; and Allan McLeod.
John’s family and friends will dearly miss his wit and sense of humor which stayed with until the last few days of his life.
His family would like to thank the Adler Center for Caring in Aldie, Virginia for their kindness to John and his family.
Family will receive friends at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Ave. Washington D.C., on Saturday January 26, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of Memorial Service at 11:00 am
