Janet Swan Clements Jacobs died peacefully on January 27, 2017, in Kensington, Md. She was born on July 2, 1932 in Minominee, Mi.; thereafter she called many locations “home” including Towson, Md., Georgia, and central and northern Virginia.
It was Janet’s love of family and dogs, commitment to friends and passion for nature, that truly defined her. Janet was predeceased by her daughter (Lee Ann Clements Pralle), her first husband (James David Clements, MD), her brother (Robert Lyman Swan) and her beloved husband (Eugene Robert Jacobs, MD). Janet’s survivors in the next generation include David Marcus Clements, MD, and his wife, Teri; Lori Jacobs Wise and her husband, Barry; as well as Susan Jacobs Buniva and Brian L. Buniva, Esq. Janet also doted on her eleven loving grandchildren (and six grandspouses) and her twelve great-grandchildren.
Professionally, Janet dedicated her life to improving the lives of countless other children, too. She served as director of the Augusta School for Handicapped Children; after completing graduate studies at University of Georgia, she spent many years as a school psychologist for the Fairfax County Public School System.
A memorial service will be held on February 4 at 1 p.m. at Joseph Gawler’s Sons (5130 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC). In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Janet to the Humane Rescue Alliance (www.humanerescuealliance.org) will be appreciated.
