January 13, 2016 Peacefully at his home in Bethesda, MD with his family at his side. Beloved husband of Mary Burke Brown. Loving father of James Burke Brown (Anna), Elizabeth Brown Rembold (Scott) and Martin Patrick Brown (Michelle). Brother of Raymond K. Brown (Paula) and Thomas P. Brown (Alicia), who predeceased Jim in 2012. He is survived by nine beautiful grandchildren. Jim was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament School, Georgetown Preparatory High School and Georgetown University. After graduation from Georgetown, Jim entered Officers'' Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He served at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. He remained in the Naval Air Reserve until his retirement in 1968 as lieutenant commander. Jim was a third generation real estate broker following his grandfather, Thomas P. Brown and his father, Raymond T. Brown''s legacy. He was the President of Thomas P. Brown Management where his grandfather, father and brothers developed, built and managed real estate holdings in DC and the Maryland suburbs. Jim was an active member of the Washington DC Kiwanis Club. Jim and his wife, Mary, have been parishioners of Little Flower Church since their marriage in 1963, where their three children attended grade school. An avid tennis player, "Jimbo" also cherished the Delaware seashore where he sailed, crabbed, and spent time with his nine grandchildren, Cullen, James Patrick, Grayson, Caitlin, Nora, Burke, Matthew, Thomas and Patrick Joseph. He will be deeply missed by every person he touched through his gentle, humble, kind and giving spirit. A viewing will be held on Monday, January 18th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Gawler''s Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W. On Tuesday, January 19, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at The Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, followed by the burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
