Jack Katz was born in Alhambra, California January 1, 1924 and passed away on August 20, 2015. His wife Evelyn Rehnberg Katz died in 2012. Jack, a graduate of UCLA, served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was Fulbright scholar in Norway. In the 1960’s he served as the Executive Director of the San Diego metropolitan area’s advisory committee on Anti-Poverty, covering Head Start, VISTA Volunteers and the Job Corp. With his bride, Evelyn, Jack moved to Washington in 1969 taking the assignment as program specialist at the National Institute of Mental Health, and then on to the Office of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention. Jack enjoyed the search for the freshest ingredients for cooking and loved reading American history. He resided at Maplewood Park Place after living more than 30 years in Sumner Village, Bethesda.
