Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Niven) Foster. Ed grew up in South Providence and graduated from Central High School and Johnson & Wales. He honorably served in the US Army.
He raised his family in Edgewood for over 30 years before moving to Matunuck. Ed wintered in Boynton Beach, Florida following his retirement as a supervisor at RI DLT. He was the co-owner of Dorsey’s Tavern, Warwick in the 70’s.
Ed volunteered for many years as a coach and board member for the Edgewood South Elmwood Little League. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting events. Ed was also a long- time volunteer delivering for Meals on Wheels.
Ed was the loving father of Edward Foster, Pamela McLaughlin (John), Margaret Foster (Kevin Oates), Steven Foster, and Timothy Foster; cherished grandfather of Teddy and Jimmy McLaughlin and Jack, Will, Kate, Matthew, and Jacoby Foster; and admired uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Crudele and Carol O’Donnell.
His visitation will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd, Warwick.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Romuald Chapel, 61 Atlantic Ave, South Kingstown.
Ed’s committal services and burial on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
