Elizabeth “Liz” Loren, age 92 passed from this life to the next on November 8, 2022. Liz was born December 27, 1929 to the late Sarah (Picconi) Maddalena and Angelo Maddalena of Rochester, NY. She was married to Joseph (Uglialoro) Loren. She was the mother of David Joseph Loren (Warren) and Cathy Anne Loren (Florida). She was predeceased by her sister Angelina (Maddalena) Becker. Liz was the last surviving family member of her generation.
Liz was raised in Rochester, NY and moved to Florida after marriage where she and Joe raised their family. Liz was happily married to Joe who was a loving husband, a practical but adventurous person and a talented musician.
Liz is best described as an energetic, feisty, and generous woman who loved to laugh. She valued family, faith, heritage and honesty. Her best memories were of spending time with her in-laws “down on the farm” and entertaining family and neighbors at her home in Florida.
Liz enjoyed living in the warmth of the Florida sun but “time changes everything”. This was one of Liz’s sayings after losing her husband, family members and friends through the years. Fortunately, Liz was not afraid of change. In 1994 she transitioned from her Floridian lifestyle to Warren, R.I. to live close to her son David and her daughter-in-law Pauline Massed. In Warren, she would live out the last chapter of her life embraced by the Massed family where she was loved, enjoyed and held dear.
Liz enjoyed reading and walking downtown or on the bike path where she cultivated many acquaintances. She was an active parishioner at St. Mary of the Bay parish, always willing to contribute, a joyful volunteer at St. Mary’s Summer Festival. Living in RI provided opportunity for Liz to reconnect with her in-laws, nieces nephews and cousins in Port Byron, NY. She looked forward to the many summer weeks she would spend with them. To Liz, upper state New York was “home”.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 9:00AM in the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main Street, Warren followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 645 Main Street, Warren.
