Sophie Theresa Lewandowski, 95 of Warren, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester. Prior to this she was a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Rochester, Michigan for the past three years. Mrs. Lewandowski was born May 13, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late John Koziel and the late Helen (nee: Czech) Koziel. She was predeceased by her husband John and daughter Mary. She is survived by children Tom (Judy), John M. (Barbara) and Theresa (James) Bieniek. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and sister Genevieve Lukasiewicz. Mrs. Lewandowski was a member of St. Sylvester Church where she was active in the Ladies Guild. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a very important part of her life. She loved to cook. She learned this skill from assisting her Mother, who was a caterer for Polish Weddings. She enjoyed ceramics and supplied her loved ones with unique pieces of art. She liked needle work and enjoyed watching Detroit Tiger games with her late husband John. She had a fondness for animals especially dogs. Sophie and her late husband John loved to travel, many of their adventures included Hawaii, Florida, Illinois, New York and numerous Polish Festivals in Michigan. Visitation for Mrs. Lewandowski will be held Tuesday from 3-9 pm with a 6 pm Rosary at the D.S. Temrowski and Sons Funeral Home 30009 Hoover Road at Common ( 12 1/2 Mile ). She will lie in state from 9:30 am Wednesday at St Sylvester Catholic Church, 11200 Twelve Mile Road, Warren, Michigan, until the time of funeral mass at 10:00am.
