With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Patrick J. (Paddy) Pollard, born March 7, 1930, of Fraser, Michigan, a beloved self-employed electrical engineer, Boy Scout leader, and bon vivant. Patrick lived a full and remarkable life. He passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023, at 93.
From a young age, he showed a natural aptitude for electrical engineering, which he honed over the years through education, his own self-study and hard work. He eventually started his own successful medical engineering company, where he continued to work until his retirement.
Aside from his professional achievements, Patrick was also a devoted Boy Scout leader. He dedicated much of his time to mentoring and guiding young scouts, instilling in them the values of hard work, perseverance, and community service. He will be remembered by many scouts as a beloved mentor and friend.
Paddy was also known for his love of life, which he approached with energy, passion, and a contagious sense of humor. Whether it was skiing, sailing, or simply enjoying a delicious meal and good company, he never missed an opportunity to live life to the fullest.
He was an engineer; professor; inventor; business owner; consultant; sailboat captain; raconteur. He was also obstinate and egocentric; a devout Catholic; a tinkerer with all things electrical and mechanical; a fountain maker; a heartbreaker; confidant; irascible and affable; unpredictable; driven; caring; droll; a loving husband and son; proud father; grandfather; great-grandfather; protective sibling; and an all-around good man.
Patrick is survived by his spouse, Dacia VanAntwerp, (and was preceded in death by his spouses Rita [Burleson] Pollard and Dorothy Pollard and his son, Daniel Pollard [spouse Linda Pollard]), and survived by his sons Michael Pollard (spouse, Judith Schuler-Pollard), Thomas Pollard (spouse Cheryl Pollard), Robert Pollard, sister Anne (Pollard) Peters, and his eight grandchildren, Emily, Audrey, Rebecca, Justin, Jenna, Ethan, Sean and Amanda and seven great-grandchildren, Javier, Amaya, Sienna, Scarlet, Rowan, Elowyn, and Waverly.
Patrick will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy lives on through the many young people he mentored, the businesses he helped to build, and the memories he created.
Visitation for Patrick will be held Monday, March 13th from 2-8pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road, Warren, MI. He will lie In State on Tuesday, March 14th from 10am until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Ronald Catholic Church, 17701 15 Mile Road, Clinton Township, MI.
