A proud, dedicated, and loyal employee with the City of Warren for over 50 years, John was an integral part of the city’s operations through his position and expertise as a Civil Engineer. Whatever project he was involved on, you could count on the finest quality and resolve coming from John’s knowledge and proficiency. The job had its demands, but John made it look like a piece of cake.
John was known for being a lover of the outdoors, so it wasn’t rare to find him enjoying time away from work at a favorite campground. There was just something special and inviting about setting up camp, engaging with fellow campers, and those treasured times around the campfire,…especially with hot dogs and marshmallows. John also loved playing card games as it was the perfect way to get family or friends around the table in a little friendly competition. Of course, that competition was pleasantly accompanied by some lively conversation,…and maybe a libation or two for encouragement. And another of John’s favorite pastimes was playing the role of Mr. Goodwrench each time he worked on cars. A true Motor City Dude, John kept his “Man Card” intact with every hood he leaned under and each difference he made by wrenching on machinery. And lastly, John loved to travel, especially when Florida was his destination,…and DisneyWorld was on the agenda.
Yet the dearest pleasures John knew had nothing to do with things or destinations, rather the immense joy he garnered simply by sharing life with family and friends. It was the people in John’s life that girded him up and put the wind under his sails,…and their love helped him cut through the waters of life with great ease. A loving husband, father and grandfather, John strove to be the best mentor, teacher and encourager to all he met, and leaves behind many lessons on how to live, laugh and love. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally,
John was the loving husband of the late Dorothy. Dear father of Janice, Jackie, the late John, and the late Jeff Makowski. Loving grandfather of Jacie Martin, John Makowski Jr., and Ronald Makowski.
A Memorial Visitation for John will be held on Monday, September 23rd from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm, with a Memorial Service at 7:00 pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road) in Warren.
