Jeffrey Michael Van Overbeke, age 54, died at his family home in Warren, Michigan, August 4, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Jeff was born June 18, 1962 in Detroit, Michigan, son of Lorraine (nee: Schoenherr) Van Overbeke and the late Cyril Francis Van Overbeke.Jeff was raised in Warren, Michigan and graduated from Warren's Cousino High School, the Class of 1980. Following high school, Jeff served honorably in the United States Army for over 5 years. Jeff earned a Good Conduct medal, an Army Achievement medal, the Sharpshooter pin, and Minute Man pin. Upon the completion of his military service in 1987, Jeff returned home and moved to Northern Michigan.Jeff worked for over 26 years with the State of Michigan's Department of Natural Resources as the field office manager in Gaylord, Michigan. When Jeff was not working, his love for nature and Northern Michigan outdoors kept him outside either hunting or fishing. Jeff loved to fish, hunt deer, ice fish, and hunt for rabbits. He also loved to share his love for hunting with his two daughters.In addition to his love for the outdoors, Jeff supported the Ruffed Grouse Society, Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, as well as many other charities. Jeff was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Lewiston as a 32nd Degree Free Mason, and was also active with the Shriners. He taught hunter safety classes, was a member of the Lewiston Sportsman League, as well as a proud member of the NRA. When his daughters were young, Jeff volunteered for the girls school to improve the playground.Jeffrey Michael Van Overbeke was the loving father of Jaclyn (Mark) Merchant and Melissa (Dan) Boersema. He was the beloved son of Lorraine (the late Frank) Van Overbeke, and was the dearest brother of Lorene Van Overbeke, Clifford (Barbara) Van Overbeke, Darlene (Tom) Biondo, and Charlene (Daniel) Smith. Jeff is further survived by his cherished grandson Mark and many loving relatives and friends.Arrangements for Jeff have been entrusted to D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd).
