Born in Bremen, Germany to the late Hermann Albert and Charlotte Meyer, Ilona moved to the United States when she was 17 years old to live with her aunt Antje and uncle Berthold for her senior year of high school. Ilona worked hard her entire life and had a very successful career in banking and customs brokerage firms. She retired from Sandler and Travis (now UPS) where she had many special friendships with her coworkers and enjoyed getting together with them after retirement. Ilona loved going to arts and craft shows all around Michigan and shopped at her favorite vendors to buy jewelry and clothes. She had an immaculate sense of style. She also enjoyed giving, receiving, and having fresh flowers in the house, and had a collection of decorative vases. She loved to spend the holidays with her family and everyone knew that if Ilona was attending, she would bring her infamous Christmas punch. Ilona loved to travel as well, vacationing in Mazatlan, Mexico in the fall, Greenbush and Harrisville Michigan in the summers, and to visit her family, especially her niece Natalie, in Germany. She always had a camera in hand and was known to take candid photos that she would later caption in photo albums and share with the people she loved. Ilona was kind to everyone she met and had a big heart for animals. She would happily pet sit for anyone who asked. Ilona was an independent and strong-willed woman, that had a special place in her heart for the people she shared her life with. A beloved daughter, niece, sister, aunt, cousin, stepmom, Omi and friend to many, Ilona will be dearly missed by all who survive her.
