In 1976 he moved to Michigan where a young lady caught his eye. Susie Rush lived just a few houses down from Gary’s uncle. She was cutting the grass and Gary thought it would be impolite to not wave. On the first day of spring 1980, they wed and settled into their Warren home.
Gary and Susie built a life, family and even a business together opening Zapit Express Expediting in 1995. He became a workaholic dedicated to his business but that was okay with Gary as he enjoyed working.
When not working Gary did like to relax. He enjoyed fishing, camping, the Amish country and his favorite place to travel was to the Smokey Mountains. Gary was always relaxed, never rushed and was pretty laid back, everything the mountains were to him. He loved taking the back roads on the scenic routes for a peaceful drive, but once the road ended, Gary was on the track. He could be found at Crystal Motor Speedway racing his Pro Truck on the dirt track. If you’re not first, you’re last. When he was off the track he could be found watching NASCAR. A driver is never out of the race.
When the race ended and it was time to refuel, Gary would hit the drive through at Hardees. He also loved biscuits and gravy, donuts and was even known to eat an entire watermelon himself.
Gary was a kind hearts, caring man whose generosity knew no bounds. Susie described him as “the sweetest guy she ever met” and that “he could talk and make friends with anyone.” Gary is loved and missed by all who knew him and his biggest gift to all of them was being able to call him their friend.
Gary is the beloved husband of Susie for 41 years and dear father of Bobby (Lisa), the late Randy, Amanda Singleton and James (Deanne). He is the loving grandfather of Marcus, Matt, Nick, Nate, Patricia, Emily, Jerry, Kenneth and proud great grandfather of Carter and Beckett. He is the dearest son of Jerry and Mildred Bagwell and the cherished brother of Judy. He was preceded in death by brothers Keith and Ron.
A visitation will take place for Gary on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 3pm to 8pm with a 7pm Funeral Service at D.S. Temrowski & Sons, 30009 Hoover Road in Warren.
