Fred Greco, age 68 of Waterford, died Friday, December 11, 2020 at St. Mary Mercy Livonia Hospital in Livonia, Michigan. He was born November 12, 1952 in Italy, son of the late Eduardo and the late Elisa (nee: Giovannano) Greco.
Fred was a mere 2 years old when his family made their trek to America in 1954. Departing their native Italy for the opportunity of striving towards that American dream, Fred would grow in stature and become a success story of his own. Possessing hard work ethics and a determination to see his way through, Fred was a part of a few business ventures,…most notably as the owner of Greco’s Nursery of Warren from the mid-80’s until 2001. From there he would accept the offer for a management position from the folks at South Win where he was brought on as their new Plant Manager. As time marched on and his leadership became more highly regarded, Fred was elevated to the position of General Manager, for which he was extremely proud.
Fred worked hard and diligently to attain to the positions he did on the job, but the one position that really grabbed his heart was filling the role as 3rd base coach for his son, Bryan’s baseball league, the WVAC. An acronym for the Warren Village Athletic Club, the organization worked in conjunction with the Parks & Recreation Department to offer summer baseball and softball for the kids in the area. Not only filling the role as coach for Bryan’s team, Fred would eventually become the President of the league, a voluntary position he held for years.
When he found time away from work and helping the kids on the baseball field, Fred enjoyed a number of various pastimes, but perhaps none more invigorating and sought after than the time spent on his pontoon boat. Known in many circles as a “Party Boat,” Fred coveted the many wonderful moments shared with family and friends on his “floating frigate of fun!”
A loving father and grandfather,…his family may have been small in number, but Fred brought a huge portion of love to the lives that needed him the most. Being quite proud of each of their accomplishments, he was especially so of his only granddaughter, Hayle’s,…his College Cutie from Michigan State University.
Fred touched a multitude of hearts and souls in his journey this side of Heaven,…may he now enjoy the blessings on the other side as he rests safely in the arms of God. He will be missed beyond expression and loved beyond measure.
Fred was the beloved father of Angela Greco, Bryan Greco, and Eric Greco. Loving grandfather of Hayle, and the late Dominic. Former husband of Rose Greco, and companion of Leatha Saullo. He is also survived by many loving nieces.
Fred will lie in state on Friday, December 18th from 11:30 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 12:30 pm at St. Faustina Catholic Church, 14025 E. 12 Mile Road in Warren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren, Michigan.
