It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eugene “Gene” Grabowski, a devoted spouse, father and grandfather who went to be with the LORD on August 7, 2023 at the age of 92.
Gene’s life was a testament the importance of family, education, and commitment.
Born in Detroit on July 7, 1931,
Gene was the son of Polish immigrants Joseph and Anna (Warzel) Grabowski. He spent his high school years at St. Thomas in Detroit and played for their football team, wearing the number 66. In 1951, he volunteered to the US Navy and served four years as a Torpedoman on his beloved USS Compton.
In 1962, Gene married the love of his life, Helen, and the two began a journey filled with love and shared dreams. Together, they built a loving family, raising 2 children: Gene Jr. and Christopher. Gene's devotion to his family was unwavering and he instilled in them the values of compassion, hard work, and family traditions.
Gene’s professional journey was equally inspiring. After being honorably discharged from the US Navy, he embarked on a successful career as an electrical engineer, working for such organizations as General Dynamics, Chrysler Defense, Vought Missile and The University of Michigan. His dedication and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and peers alike. Even after retirement, Gene continued to stay engaged with his passions: endlessly working on computers and watching the stock market.
The members of Gene's devoted family, including his daughters-in-law Laura and Nicole, as well as his grandchildren Andrei, Nikolai, Angelina, Brianna, and Ethan, will always cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 3200 Schoenherr Road in Warren from 2pm – 8pm on Wednesday, August 9th.
A funeral mass will be held on August 10th at 10:30am at St. Faustina Catholic Church 14025 12 Mile Road in Warren, where family and friends can pay their respects. Military honors will be rendered at church following mass. Afterwards, Gene will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI at 2:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause that meant a great deal to Gene.
Rest in peace, dear Gene. You will be deeply missed.
