Ethel Jean Schwartz

Ethel Jean Schwartz – "Pudge," age 85 of Warren, died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. She was born August 13, 1929 in Detroit, daughter of the late Elmer and the late Irene (nee: Schumaker) Kiel.We all have our own stories to tell, but one of Ethel's definitely wins the prize for most compelling. Not just once, but twice,…she lived to tell about the unimaginable odds of being struck by lightning! Perhaps that's how she came about her "electric personality." Another of her traits that was quite profound was her hard-work ethics. She was truly a Jacqueline-of-all-trades and managed numerous positions throughout the years,…always giving each job the best part of herself. And not merely on the job, Ethel was a "giver" from the deepest recesses of her heart and soul. With a loving-kindness that set her apart, she was a helper to all and sought to serve where she could in any way she could. When she was getting ready to go shopping, there was a number of friends she would call to see if they needed anything,…just one of the many unselfish acts many would benefit from through Ethel's friendship. When she wasn't working, Ethel loved to dabble in her arts & crafts projects and was very adept in the art of making candy. She would make candy for most any occasion, but never so much as for the holidays. The holidays were her favorite time of year, and she poured her greatest talents into decorating for the same. Her home always looked like a showplace,…and it was one of Santa's favorite places to take a break along the way. And of all the decorating prowess she possessed, many will forever remember how faithfully she adorned her beloved Goose. Not a live one, but the kind you see on a porch. And though it wasn't living & breathing, she dressed that thing as if it was one of her children. It was definitely an extension of her artistic flair.Ethel will also be remembered for her skills in the kitchen. She was an extraordinary cook who knew how to whip up some delicious feasts, especially when it came to her own recipe for Fried Chicken. Many tried to mimic her creation, but none came close,…and "The Colonel" didn't hold a candle to Ethel's mouth-watering goodness. And if that wasn't enough, you could finish it off with a piece of her sinfully tasty, "Texas Cake." Just a simply made pan of chocolate cake, but a version that would make your eyes roll back in your head.She also loved to read, especially when it came to her favorite magazines,…and she loved her flowers, many of which adorned her home and yard. Yet there's no questioning or mistaking her greatest love of all, her precious grandchildren. Every moment in their company was a gift beyond expression, and she lived for the memories they would create together. Pudge may have been a bit of a worry-wart at times, but she had nothing to fret when it came to the love that surrounded her. Through her giving nature and sweet spirit, Ethel touched a storehouse of lives along the way,…lives that were changed by her care and compassion. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Pudge was the beloved wife of the late Richard, and formerly of the late John Lokotar. Dear mother of Linda (Richard Depunt) Crull, John (Kathleen) Lokotar, Robert (Joyce Amos) Lokotar, and Keith (Pamela) Lokotar. Loving grandmother of Brian (Sharlene), Kelly (John), Lindsay, Robert, Christie, Justin, Corie Lynn, Jessica, Jennifer (Ben), Johnny, and Rebecca (Greg). She is also survived great-grandchildren, Samantha (Peter), Kevin, Joshua, Daniel, Jonah, Caleb, Feona, Nolan, Uriah, Jack, Ella, Aiden, Laila. Mason, Paige, and Grace. She was preceded in death by siblings, Ruth, Elaine, Suzanne, Sandra, Elmer, Robert, Stanley, Ricky, and Barbara Ann.A Committal Service for Pudge will be held in the chapel at Resurrection Cemetery at 11:00am on Friday, September 5, 2014.Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. Please share memories of Ethel at her memory book.
