Edward Duncan Sieloff

Edward Duncan Sieloff, age 84 of Warren, died at home on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born May 7, 1934 in Detroit, son of the late Edward and the late Agnes (nee: Duncan) Sieloff. Interesting stories come in many variations for us all, and for Edward it was found in his career. First of all, he came from a day and time where job-hopping was near unheard of,…and second, when he did retire, he not only took that leap once, but twice. As a young man of 19, it was in 1953 that Edward managed to secure a position with the longstanding company, Western Electric which, in 1973, would become the iconic communications giant, Michigan Bell. With over 52 years of dedicated service to the company, it was in 2005 that Edward finally decided to accept his well-deserved retirement and begin a new chapter in life as a Golden Warrior. Well…that glory trip lasted about six weeks before Ed started going buggy and yearning to be busy again,…so back to work he went where he was eagerly welcomed with open arms. Mind you, he was 71 years "young" at the time. It would be 5 years later, in 2010, that Ed would decide to, truly, hang up his hat and call it good,…this time for real.When not at work, Edward's time was often filled immersing himself in the many facets of sports he enjoyed,…especially those where his children were involved, a huge one being hockey. As both Coach & Parent of players in the Fraser Youth Hockey Club, Edward had the time of his life watching his kids, and their fellow team members, compete and grow in the knowledge and importance of sportsmanship. Along with the Fraser commitment, Edward also took the hockey show on the road as part of the S.E. Michigan Travel League where the kids were able to compete on more of a grander scale. Aside from the hockey aspect while at home in Fraser, Ed was also the rink's Ice Coordinator with responsibilities that included the managing and scheduling of events and basic oversight of the public arena. Ed was also quite proud of the years he spent as a softball coach, yet another opportunity for him to bring his wisdom and leadership to the table to share with the youth. Edward was also quite involved in the breeding and racing of harness horses, namely the trotters. A specific style of racing on an oval track, Ed often found himself in the throes of it all at the various county fairs that speckled the racing circuit. It was definitely like a second family with all of the fellow owners and racers he engaged over the years. And being the lover of animals that he was, Ed made sure the horses were well cared for and respected. He loved the track environment, the uniqueness of the sport, and the opportunity of expanding his sportsmanship skills into the adult arena. Edward was also known for his charitable and giving spirit, often witnessed in the countless hours he spent as a member of the Warren Woods Booster Club. Created to be a support and fundraising arm for Warren Woods High School, Ed contributed a great deal of time and effort over the years to the club and was an integral part of the successes they realized in the process. Also in the vein of giving, Ed was extremely proud and honored to be a Mason, a member of Lodge #2 in Detroit, Michigan. A fraternal order of men who commit themselves to being exemplary individuals in all aspects of life, Ed rose through the ranks to achieve his 32 degree status which he held in the highest regard. And Edward's charitable heart just kept on beating as realized through the extensive volunteer efforts he gave to the Ascension St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren. With over 2500 hours of care and giving, his volunteering work was considered an incredible blessing to the hospital. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Edward was the rock of his family and always set an example of love and care that permeated the hearts of them all. He influenced the hearts of many in his world as well through his strength and humility, and a desire to help others be the best they could be. He leaves behind a storehouse of wonderful memories, created with those he so loved and cared for, to be embraced with each reflection shared. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Edward was the beloved husband of Mary Jane, known more affectionately to all as "Janie". Dearest father of Kimberlee (Dan) Tripp, Kathy (Andrew) Calcaterra, Paul Sieloff, and Keri (Robert) Bright. Loving grandfather of Hannah, Kayce, Dryden, and Emma. Brother of John Sieloff. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation for Edward will be held on Friday, February 15th form 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.He will lie in state on Saturday, February 16th from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 375 Lothrop Road, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan 48236.
