Ann Katherine Hofer, age 84, died Thursday, June 6, 2019 at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Ann was born April 23, 1935 in Howell, Michigan, daughter of the late Richard Merrill and the late Katherine (nee: Kelley) Merrill.
Ann was raised in the Howell and Linden areas where she attended and graduated from Linden High School. Following her schooling. Ann worked for the R.L. Polk Company. Ann eventually met and married the love of her life in Robert Hofer. The couple married in 1957 and eventually settled in East Detroit. Robert worked for the Parks and Recreation Department, and Ann became a "stay at home" Mom, raising her children and tending to her home.
Over the years, Ann and her husband were a very social and outgoing couple hosting many parties at their home or enjoying the many events at the East Detroit Lions Club. Ann had a big circle of friends, many of whom enjoyed playing cards with Ann.
After her youngest son reached the eighth grade, Ann returned to the workforce employed as a bookkeeper for Metal Masters Furniture, then on to Ten Penny Furniture, and lastly working for Mason's Furniture before retiring after more than 25 years.
When Ann and her husband were not working they enjoyed traveling. The couple traveled to many destinations within the United States including an Alaskan Shipboard cruise, in addition to visiting Ireland, Scotland, and Germany.
Ann will be forever remembered by her family as a devoted and loving mother who cherished her family and grandchildren.
Ann was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Hofer, and dear mother of Kimberly (Joe) Arresto, Kristine (Tom) Flynn, Scott (Jo) Hofer, Todd (Karen) Hofer and the late Kelley Duberg. She was the loving grandmother of Nicole, Shelby, Michael, Kristen, Steve, Nicholas, and great-grandmother of Aidan, Jade, Harper, Molly, and Troy. Also, Ann was the cherished sister of Gerald (Norma) Merrill.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday June 14, 2019, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren. Mrs. Hofer's family will receive guest from 9am until the time of the Memorial Mass at 9:30am.
Memorial donations are appreciated, in Mrs. Hofer's name, to the charity of donor's choice.
