Yoshio (Yosh) Uchida, 68, of Yakima, WA passed away on July 3, 2011 in Wapato, WA. Yosh was born on June 3, 1943 at the Heart Mountain Relocation Center in Wyoming to Kaichiro “Harry” Uchida and Yoshiko Uchida.
After the end of WWII, Yosh returned to Wapato with his family where he attended and graduated from Wapato High School. Yosh went on to Washington State University where he graduated with a degree in Agricultural Economics.
After college, Yosh went to work for Del Monte Foods where he served in various roles until his retirement in 1998. After retirement, Yosh worked as a consultant until his death.
Yosh was an active member of the Yakima Buddhist Church in Wapato, WA. He served as the chairman of the church’s annual Sukiyaki Dinner for the past eleven years. Yosh also served as president of the church for the past six years. Throughout his life, Yosh enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the company of his friends and family.
Yosh is survived by one sister, Kimiko Mori of Seattle, WA; three brothers, Tom (Takako) Uchida of Wapato, WA, Shig (Jean) Uchida of Kent, WA, and Sam (Masako) Uchida of Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law, Irene Uchida of Mabton, WA and Nancy Uchida of Yakima, WA; as well as seven nephews and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Kaichiro “Harry” and Yoshiko Uchida, brothers Mas Uchida and Aki Uchida, and brother-in-law Hideo Mori.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Yakima Buddhist Church in Wapato, WA. Merritt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences may be offered at www.merrittsfuneralhome.com
