Jesse Steven Ramos, age 64, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2013 at his home in Wapato surrounded by loved ones. He was born on December 26, 1948 in Yakima, Washington to Narciso and Julia (Parra) Ramos. He was raised and educated in Wapato, and graduated from Wapato High School in 1968. Jesse, as a boy, was active in the sport of boxing at the Wapato Boys Club. Jesse was raised in the Catholic Church. Jesse had many lifelong friends, but it was his childhood buddy Hector Perez that Jesse had so many good times with. Other close friends where Chris “Cook” Facio and Raymond “Mony” Alvarado.
Jesse was drafted into the Army in 1969 during the Vietnam War and stationed in Phu Bai, Hue, Vietnam at Camp Eagle. While stationed in Vietnam Jesse was able to secure a leave and return to Wapato to marry his wife Barbara (Razo) on November 6, 1970. During his time in the Army he earned a Combat Infantryman Badge, a Bronze Star, and an Army Commendation Medal. His VSM included three bronze stars due to his participation in three separate military campaigns. Jesse served with the Army until his discharge in February 1971, he then returned to Wapato and rejoined his family. Together Jesse and Barbara they raised their two sons D’Angelo and Jason. His third son Al was born later into Jesse life and Jesse boasted that he was now was triple blessed. Jesse enjoyed cruising around Wapato in his Camaro and took great pride in his car and his three sons. In his later years, Jesse liked to go to Legends Casino when he wasn’t busy spending time with his family.
Jesse is survived by his sons, D’Angelo Ramos, Jason (Jennifer) Ramos both of Yakima, and Al (Krystal) Ramos of Wapato; brothers, Paul (Gloria) Ramos of Venice, CA., and Charles Ramos of Wapato; sisters, Linda Ramos and RoseMary (Myron) Yolo both of Wapato; his special friend Mona Day of Moxee; his ex-wife Barbara (Razo) Ramos; grandchildren, Desmond Ramos, Griffin Ramos, and Abraham Ramos; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; and Jesse also considered Rachel Castilleja and Jacob Aleck as his step children.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents Narciso and Julia Ramos; brothers, Eliodoro, Juan, and Forrest Ramos; and his sisters Eleanor Ramos and Eleanor Trotchie.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 4-7:00 p.m. with a Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Wapato with interment following at Reservation Community Memorial Park.
