Daniel Zack, age 81, went to his heavenly reward January 7, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born to Dora and Joe Zack Sr. in Toppenish on June 7, 1931. He attended White Swan Mission and trained in road construction. For a few years he worked for the Yakama Nation Roads before joining the Goodfellow Bros. Their bids took him through out the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. He returned to the Yakama Nation Roads as a supervisor before retirement. Danny participated in his cultural traditions of hunting in the “closed area” and fishing at Celilo Falls on the Columbia River. He thrived in the outdoors.
Danny was a member of the Yakama Nation and kept his home in Wapato. Danny stayed active in motor mechanics and handy man repairs. He married Sharon Spencer Zack during the Christmas season of 1948. Surviving Danny are his wife, Sharon; his son Stuart (Teresa) Zack; daughters Shirley (Bob) Ortega, Vivian (David) Rocha, Christine (Doug) Olney and Mary Pat Zack; many loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Joe Jr. and wife Sarah; sisters, Elsie and Mary; and his daughter Janice Danielle Zack.
The family thanks the Yakama Nation medical doctors and staff; the Yakima Heart Center and staff; Toppenish Community Hospital doctors and nurses; and the Yakama Nation contract staff for all of their assistance in meeting Danny’s care and comfort needs.
Visitation will be Friday, January 11, 2013 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato, with the Funeral Service to immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Toppenish.
