Edward Roy Payne was born November 20, 1946 in Washington, DC to the late Roy and Florence (King) Payne. He was the youngest of two children. Edward was known by family and friends as “Eddie Payne”. He enjoyed traveling, hosting barbecues, and spending time with family and friends.
Edward graduated from Cardozo High School. After high school, he enlisted into the U.S Army. His enlistment was during the Vietnam War. He did not see combat. During his enlistment, he was an Auto Repair Parts specialist. He was honorably discharged April 19, 1969. When service to his country ended, Edward joined the policy academy. He was employed with the Washington Metropolitan police department for 25 years. He worked as a Forensic fingerprint technician for the 4th District precinct.
Preceding his death was his brother, Thomas Payne and son, Keith Allen Payne.
He leaves behind, Cynthia E (Hamilton) Payne and their son Darnell Payne; a daughter-Davette Wilson Derricks, husband Mark Derricks, a daughter-in law-Mary Venable-Payne; a sister-in-law Gisele Hamilton, six grandchildren-Kyarra McKinney, Alexis Payne, Darnell Payne II, Osh’e Derricks, Aaron Derricks and Iana Wilson Derricks; a great granddaughter-Takaiyah Howell, and a host of family and friends.
