Our dear mother, Mrs. Barbara Jane "Grams" Clegg, sadly passed away in her sleep on November 14, 2022 at the age of 78. She was a committed wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother and a sweet great grandmother.
Barbara, daughter of the late Clarence Ellison and Joleen Hurd was born in Tennessee. She was raised in Washington DC along with her siblings Charlie Ellison and Rene Fadoul. At the age of 14 and on her own, she professed her faith thru baptism and confirmation in the Roman Catholic Church. She was married to the love of her life, Harry Clegg and this union continued for almost 62 years.
She worked in the banking industry while raising her 4 young children. She walked alongside her husband as one of the founding members of the Southern Maryland Youth Organization. She was most proud of returning to school in her late 30's to become a Registered Nurse where she enjoyed being a caregiver in various hospitals, nursing homes and doctor offices for over 20 years. Barbara was a woman ever dedicated to her spirituality (as was noted by her consistent possession of a set of rosary beads no matter where she was.) She continuously influenced those around her with her zest for life, vibrancy, authenticity, endless sense of humor and incredible laugh. She had a love for reading, impressive knowledge of the British Monarchy and a passion for professional baseball and football.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charlie and her son, Richard (Pam) Clegg. Her beautiful life will continue to be cherished by her husband, Harry Sr., her children: Harry (Cindy) Clegg Jr., Joe (Julie) Clegg, Debra (Mike) Ausley, her grandchildren: Jennifer (Tony) Petz, Joseph (Alex) Clegg, Jessica (Conner) Moroney, Amber (Adrian) Parlow, Jon Clegg, Christina Ausley, Michael Ausley, Kelly Lampe, Andrew Lampe, Lindsey Doshen and the late Craig Doshen. She will live on in the smiles of her great grandchildren: Jack, Gus, Willow, Charlie and Amelia.
"Grams" will be deeply missed by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing and being loved by her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
