Joan A. Savage, age 76, of Walbridge, passed away Friday, June 08, 2012, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg. She was born in Genoa on January 13, 1936 to Harmon and Alvena (Marten) Schumacher. Joan was raised by Henry and Clara Goeckerman. She married Roy Lanning on October 15, 1955 and he preceded her in death. After Roy’s death, Joan married Marvin J. Savage on May 16, 1998 in Zion Lutheran Church. Joan was employed as a switchboard operator for St. Charles Hospital and also worked at the Exchange Bank as a teller. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a Deacon. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #9963, Friends of Pearson and Wood County Historical Museum. Joan loved bowling and bowled in several leagues and tournaments.
She is survived by her loving husband, Marvin; children, Kenneth (Joan) Lanning, Karen (Tim) Stewart, and Kimberly (Bryan) Barshel; step-son, Mike Savage; grandchildren, Jon (Alex) Lanning, Jessica Lanning, Holly Lanning, Jill Lanning, Matthew (Michelle) Stewart, Danielle (Dustin) Flint, Kyle Barshel and Kelsey Barshel; great-grandchildren, Rowen and Raden Lanning; siblings, Robert Schumacher, Ruth (Dale) Nedelco, and Rhea (Dick) Shupe, Marilyn Lintner; and half-sisters, Susanne Camp, Peggy (Tom) Brockschmidt, and Kathey Schumacher. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Schumacher.
Friends will be received on Sunday, June 10, 2012 from 5-9pm and Monday, June 11, 2012 from 2-9pm in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home 701 N. Main St. Walbridge (419-666-3121) where the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #9963 will conduct services at 7pm Monday. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 11am in Zion Lutheran Church 26535 Pemberville Rd. Perrysburg, Ohio 43551, where the family will receive friends after 10am. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
