Thelma Jean Schmedthorst, age 88, went home to be with Jesus on June 6, 2024. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Robinson, Texas with Brother John Rainey officiating. Visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors in Waco, Texas.
Thelma Jean was born on January 19, 1936, to Edgar D. and Gladys F. (Curry) Mayberry in Gatesville, Texas. Thelma Jean graduated from Waco High School and followed with a career in the Auditing Department at Sears and retired after 29 years. Thelma Jean married Andrew Schmedthorst November 5, 1955, and had many cherished memories together until his death in 2017. Some of their memories include traveling with the Jaycee’s, Friday night dinners and board games with Gladys and Walter, and Shirley and Leroy. Thelma Jean loved spending time with all of her nieces and nephews. Thelma Jean was a Christian and was a member of Bells Hill Church of Christ, and later Southside Church of Christ.
Thelma Jean was proceeded in death by her parents, Edgar and Gladys Mayberry, and her only sister Cherry Sue Holland and her husband Freddie Holland. Also proceeded by brother-in-law Lloyd Schmedthorst, Nephew Keith Becker, Sister-in-law Gladys Becker and brother-in-law Walter Becker and lifelong best friends Leroy and Shirley Becker.
Thelma Jean is survived by, nieces, Cheryl Combs, Robin Smith, Stacy Crow, Amy Holland, Alyson Mitcham and their spouses. Nephews Craig Becker and Darryl Schmedthorst and their spouses, and lifelong friend and sister-in-law Julia Ledford and husband Gordon. Thelma Jean also had many great and great-great nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
Family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Providence Village and Providence Hospice for all of their love and care and the many bonds that were made.
To know her was to love her. Also to know her, you know she is in heaven bossing Uncle Andy and Jesus around. We love you and will see you soon.
