Reitt Shipley, 91, of Fort Worth passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012 with her family at her side. She was preceded in death by James Shipley, the love of her life, on April 21, 2004. Their lives together began on November 4, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas. They celebrated their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries in the town they considered their home: Waco.
Reitt was born to Monroe Cooper and Arilla Perry Cooper in Amite, Louisiana on July 2, 1920. The youngest of 10 siblings (split evenly: 5 boys and 5 girls).
While her children were in elementary school, Reitt studied and received a beautician’s license in order to help James support their little family.
During their retirement together, James and Reitt saw most of the United States with friends and enjoyed membership in numerous RV clubs.
Our loving Mother and Grandmother is survived by her daughter, Betty Einig and son-in-law, John Einig of Fort Worth; grandsons, Kevin Gummelt of Cleburne, and James Gummelt of Fort Worth; and granddaughter, Katy Einig of Austin.
Reitt is preceded in death by her siblings and her youngest daughter, Norma Shipley.
Reitt’s family has placed their trust in Connally-Compton Funeral Directors for the final arrangements. They will be greeting guests at visitations on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8pm at Connally-Compton, 4400 West Waco Drive.
