Mary “Polly” Dempsey, 85, of Waco, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017, at her residence. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2017 in Waco Memorial Park with Pastor Deryl K Leblanc officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 15th at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Dempsey was born on October 28, 1931 in Mitchell County, Texas to J.E. and Louise (Houston) Shrum. She married J.D. Dempsey on August 13, 1948 in Waco and they celebrated over 42 wonderful years together until his death on October 25, 1990. They were very involved with the Southern Little League for several years; J.D. would coach the teams and Polly would run the concession stand. Mrs. Dempsey was a very active member of Abundant New Life Assembly Of God in Waco and was a former secretary for the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Jerry, and brothers, Billy Jack and Butch Shrum.
Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Makovy and her husband, Mike of Robinson and Mary Booker Dempsey of Waco; son, Donald Dempsey and his wife, Lupe of Waco; sisters, Byrdie Nesbit of Waco and Blanche Thronberry of Waco and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
