Martin S. Salinas, 90, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 28, 2011 at St. Francis Catholic Church, 315 Jefferson Ave., with Deacon Jessie C. Garza officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with a rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Martin was born November 12, 1920 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Frederico and Louisa (Sepulveda) Salinas. Martin worked 26 years at the Methodist Home and 15 years at the Little League Baseball fields. Martin was a loving father and was always there for his children and their families. Four of his sons served in the armed forces.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 56 years, Matilda Torres Salinas; daughters, Flora May Torres and Andrea Rodriguez; son, Ausencion Salinas; and grandson, Stanley Garcia.
Those left behind to cherish Martin’s memory are his daughter, Carol Garcia and husband, Chris; sons, Martin Salinas Jr. and wife, Esmeralda, Robert Salinas and wife, Lenora, David Salinas, Daniel Salinas and wife, Melissa, Freddie Salinas and wife, Merrie, Milton Salinas and wife, Erminia, and Ernest Salinas and wife, Elaine; brother, Sipriano Salinas; 37 grandchildren; 79 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Eric Garcia, Randy Gonzales, Daniel Salinas Jr., Ernest Salinas Jr., Freddie Salinas Jr., Martin Salinas II, Milton Salinas Jr., and Robert Salinas Jr.
