Betty Davidson Lucas, 89, passed away June 20, 2021 at her home in New Boston, Texas. She was born in Mart, Texas, on August 12, 1931, to Homer Aubra and Alice Hardegree Davidson. She and Henry E. (Luke) Lucas were married in Waco, Texas, on January 27, 1951. Mrs. Lucas worked as a beautician and later as a pastry cook in an elementary school cafeteria. After retiring, she moved to Texarkana, Texas. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Lucas is survived by her son Michael M. Lucas and his son Johnathan of Texarkana, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Lori and Heath Shelton of New Boston, Texas; daughter Betty Ratsch of New Port Richey, Florida; a number of grand- and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews that she loved as if they were her own; numerous cousins; and a host of special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, daughter Dolores Knopt, and all five of her siblings.
More than anything, Mrs. Lucas enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was ready at a moment's notice to travel on to the next adventure, whether it was to attend weddings in New York, visit family in Georgia, or research genealogy across the South. She also took great joy in baking homemade pies and yeast rolls for others. Mrs. Lucas never met a stranger and would happily join in playing games with old and new friends.
She especially loved her happy times at Autumn Wind, a loving and caring assisted living facility, where she was known as Mrs. Betty or Mama. When Covid quarantine kept families away from loved ones, the staff and residents became her surrogate family. She spoke often and lovingly of everyone there. Her busy days were filled with fun and laughter. She looked forward to joining her morning domino group who lovingly called her The Chicken Foot Queen, her afternoon card games, and hand-picking her winning cards for bingo.
