He was born June 19, 1963 in Columbia, South Carolina to Larry and Betty Lorick Sturkie. After graduating from Swansea High School in 1981, he attended Midlands Technical College and earned a degree in Mechanical Tool and Die Design.
Troy was a true “Momma’s Boy”. He was a passionate golfer for many years, loved the South Carolina Gamecocks, Pittsburgh Steelers and 80s rock music. He was especially proud of his daughter, Nicole. One of his happiest days was when he walked her down the aisle on her wedding day in March. He was employed with Larry W. Sturkie Construction for more than 40 years. He attended Green Hill Baptist Church where he was baptized.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Legare and Pauline Sturkie and Carl and Ruby Lorick.
Troy is survived by his mother, Betty and step-father, Earl Boatwright of West Columbia; his father, Larry and step-mother, Tonya Sturkie of Gaston; his daughter, Nicole and son-in-law, Cody McClellan of Jacksonville, Florida; ex-wife, Lesia Sturkie of Gaston; sister, Karla and brother-in-law, Tony Pope of Chester; step-sisters, Laken (Jamie) Smith of Spartanburg, Starr Dawkins of Pelion, Jade (Scooter) Tindal of Pelion, Ashley (Andrew) Fort of Batesburg; step-brothers, Jamey Whitten of Lexington and Justin (Christi) Boatwright of Kailua, Hawaii; special friend, Traci Dukes; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Visitation with the family will be 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. Thursday, July 14 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
