WEST COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Ronald Winfrey, 62, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, with interment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Heart Center at Lexington Medical Center, 2720 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169, or Reformation Lutheran Church, 1118 Union Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Ron was born July 17, 1956 in Nuremburg, Germany, and passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019. He was a son of the late Anita Adele Schmitt and Clarence Beamon Winfrey. He retired from the State Attorney General’s Office after 26 years’ service. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years. He enjoyed woodworking and was passionate about photography. He had a visual eye for creating unique pictures and was inspired by the works of Ansel Adams. He constantly read, especially anything science fiction. Stephen King was his favorite author. Ron was a practical joker and would do anything for a laugh. He was an avid cook and would utilize his skills creating new dishes. He looked forward to his long drives around town with his furry companion of 2 years, his Great Pyrenees, Casper and spending time with friends at Chevy’s. His days were filled with listening to alternative rock and blues. He was a devoted husband and loving father. Ron is survived by his wife, Peggy Winfrey of West Columbia; daughter, Jennifer Ekovich (Nick) of Lexington; grandson, Tanner Ekovich; sister, Lila Winfrey of North Carolina; brother, Clarence Winfrey, Jr. of Irmo; four nephews and his beloved Great Pyrenees, Noah.
