Leon Eugene Harmon, Jr., age 97, of Cayce, South Carolina passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024. He was born and reared in Lexington, SC, to the late Nola Price Harmon and Leon E. Harmon, Sr. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Esther Boyd Harmon.
In 1944 he joined the US Navy during WWII, where he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Camp Mate Third Class V-6 and WWII Victory Medal. He was a part of the last battle of WWII at Okinawa where they landed with the Marines for victory! Upon returning home, he attended USC.
Leon (“Cutt” or “Gene”) was employed with Southern Bell for 36 years before retiring in 1985. He was a long-time member of the Cayce Masonic Lodge 384, Scottish Rite White Cap and Shriners. He loved Gamecocks, great friends, family, hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by his son, Leon Eugene Harmon III; his daughters, Renee H. Garland and Cindy H. Eddy; sister, Linda H. Coles; grandchildren: Briana H. McGee and husband, Brandon, Taylor H. Garland and wife, Casey, Lauren E. Holland and husband Bryan, and Peter Eddy III; great-grandchildren, Harvey Stone IV, Lane McGee, Koby Rodriguez, Olivia Garland, Raiden Garland, and Audrey Holland. Many nieces and nephews were also loved by Uncle Cutt.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Miriam H. Lorick and Rebecca H. Stokes.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
